North West developer Property Alliance Group and jv partner Development Securities have submitted plans for a 28-storey luxury residential tower in Manchester.
The Axis tower project – on the corner of Albion Street and Whitworth Street West – replaces an earlier plan for a 75,000 sq ft office tower on the same site.
Designed by 5plus Architects the tower will provide 172 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, with two penthouses on the top floor.
It will be clad in reflective metallic bronze and glass, changing colour throughout the day and evening, with an LED screen on the city-facing façade.
Property Alliance Group chairman David Russel said: “Our team has created a statement building that will stand proud in the Manchester skyline. Subject to planning, we look forward to creating Manchester’s number one residence.”
5plus director Jon Matthews said: “We’ve been working on this site for nearly 10 years. A unique site required a unique and dramatic response and we are fortunate to be working with a developer who shares our vision and ambition to deliver Manchester’s best residential building.”
JLL is marketing the site.
Property Alliance Group regional residential director Stephen Hogg said: “The residential market is buoyant at the moment, with demand far outstripping supply. AXIS will be one of the first developments to take shape in a series of new planning applications recently submitted.”
If planning is granted in the autumn, construction would commence immediately with the first residents moving in from autumn 2016.
