283-year-old Drivers Jonas to switch to LLP status

Drivers Jonas, the UK’s oldest agent, is to convert to limited liability partnership status.

The 283-year-old firm will become an LLP when it starts its new financial year on 1 June 2008, limiting the amount of cash its 23 equity partners can be held liable for.

DJ tops the poll of the UK’s oldest agents – revealed in EG this week as part of its 150th anniversary countdown (p81). The agency was established in 1725 by brothers Samuel and Charles Driver, who also worked as bakers and ran a nursery business in south London.

King Sturge and Cluttons claimed second and third place, racking up 248 years and 243 years, respectively.

Senior partner Nick Shepherd said: “Becoming an LLP will be the next stage in the development of the business. We think we have a good and evolving business model.”
