Some three million working families are potentially just one pay cheque away from not being able to pay their rent or mortgage, according to the findings of a study by Shelter and YouGov.
A poll last month of 8,381 adults, including 1,581 working families with children, revealed that 37% of families would not have enough money to pay their housing related costs for more than a month and 23% would not be able to pay any of the costs.
The figures are a stark reminder that millions of working families are stretched to breaking point as a result of sky high housing costs, Shelter chief executive Campbell Robb said.
