£400m student digs offer mooted

MSAF-Student-digs-Birmingham-THUMBA £400m student housing portfolio could be brought to market as a result of moves to liquidate the Mansion Student Accommodation Fund.

Knight Frank has been appointed by the International Mutual Fund to look at options for the MSAF, including selling the UK portfolio.

It comprises 5,519 beds across 25 properties in 12 city centres including Manchester, and Birmingham (pictured). A third of the portfolio, by value, is in London where there are schemes in Bloomsbury, Camden, Chelsea and other locations.

The agent appointment is part of an attempt to restore liquidity to the offshore fund.

The sale is one of a number of options Knight Frank has been instructed to review.

James Pullan, partner and head of student property at Knight Frank, said: “The investment market in the student accommodation market has never been stronger. Institutions and international investors have recognised that the sector offers real value.”
