£7bn Scottish investment opportunities to launch at MIPIM

Scottish-flag-THUMB.gifThe Scottish Property Alliance is to launch £7bn of property investment opportunities at MIPIM on 17 March.

Kenneth Gibson, Scottish National Party MSP, said at the Scottish Property Federation conference that “investment-ready” opportunities across Scotland will be outlined, coinciding with the launch of the Midlands Engine portfolio.

The news follows the northern powerhouse announcements last year.

Responding to claims that commercial property investment fell by 11% in Scotland last year but rose across the UK, Gavin Brown, Conservative MSP, said: “With the pitchbook and the product we have here in Scotland, I’m sure we can increase investment.”

But speaking on a panel with Gibson, Willie Rennie, Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP, warned that the fall in investment could continue – especially if the threat of independence lingers.

“Potentially [the threat] has caused long-term damage to the economy,” he said. “By keeping the independence debate on the agenda, further disinvestment could happen.”
