Sky flies in to Leeds tech hub

Leeds-Dock-Concerp-CGi-THUMB.gifAllied London has confirmed media giant Sky is to take a new office at its Leeds Dock development, as revealed by Estates Gazette.

The technology hub will see 400 staff move into a 70,000 sq ft facility, creating Sky’s next generation of websites and apps.

Head of technology Matt Grest said: “The creation of Sky@Leeds Dock is a major commitment to our technology business, and to the city of Leeds.

“We are creating one of the largest digital communities in the UK, offering people in the north of England a unique opportunity to help shape Sky’s award-winning digital products, reaching millions of Sky customers around the UK.

“Leeds is thriving, with a burgeoning technology sector, and we’re confident our new hub can make a huge contribution to the city, and to our business.”

Allied London chief executive Michael Ingall said: “Technology-based business is not just going to spring up anywhere; it is and will increasingly be the tool of the creative classes. Two years ago we developed a strategy for a TMT workspace triangle across London, Manchester and Leeds. We are realising this through our workspace platform Hello Work and XYZ, our new global workplace building, both of which are essential parts of the Leeds Dock masterplan.

“We are delighted therefore that Sky has chosen our development at Leeds Dock as its location for a new technology centre, as it has been created for exactly this type of initiative.”
