William Morrison will anchor the £30m St Andrews Retail Park in Birmingham with a 7,710 sq m (83,000 sq ft) superstore and petrol station.
Abacus Developments, the property development arm of Sir Robert McAlpine, owns the 4ha (10 acre) site at Small Heath. Morrison is to construct the store on land bought from Abacus and work will start on site this summer and the store will open next summer.
The 155,685 sq ft (14,463 sq m) retail park close to Birmingham City Football Club’s stadium (on the left of the image) will also include five non-food units ranging from 929 sq m to1,626 sq m (10,000 sq ft to 17,500 sq ft), with open A1 consent. Two 232 sq m (2,500 sq ft) shop units will also be constructed alongside Morrison’s store and parking provision is being made for 735 cars.
Mark Briant, director of Abacus Developments, said: “St Andrews Retail Park is a major contribution to the on-going regeneration of the area which has included the development of extensive new housing and community facilities. It is also the most significant retail scheme undertaken on the city’s ring road corridor in the past ten years.”
The first units will be available for trading from Easter 2001.
Ramsdens and Insignia Richard Ellis are letting agents for the development.
