Abbey is planning to open up to 100 new bank branches across the UK.
It is part of an organic expansion programme designed to treble the size of the British operations over the next 10 years.
The expansion would represent the first significant branch opening programme for 15 years since the former building society’s demutualisation 17 years ago.
