The Abbey Road Institute has signed a 10-year lease at the Grade II listed Angel Studios in Islington, N1, which has played host to names including Kylie Minogue, Robbie Williams and Adele.
The institute, which is backed by Universal Music, will set up a state-of-the-art music academy for students at the 13,000 sq ft site on Upper Street, N1, bringing the studio back to life. Angel Studios closed in 2019 and has been unoccupied since.
The De Wolfe family, which has run the studio since 1978, instructed Sint & Co on the deal.
David Raymond, a leasing agent at Sint & Co, said: “Even through this pandemic, it was really encouraging to get such strong interest from many alternative users in the leisure industry. In the end, the local community and music scene will take pleasure that the legacy of Angel Studios will now continue for many years”.
Luca Barassi, chief executive of Abbey Road Institute, added: “The move into Angel Studios brings many possibilities for our school, our students and our international Abbey Road Institute family, enabling us to start our next chapter. The history and relevance of Angel and the impressive studio space and building full of character, will all play a part in the next stage of Abbey Road Institute’s evolution.”
The institute plans to restore the Grade II listed studio over the coming months, adding cutting edge recording facilities for its students as well as a working recording studio for hire.
