Changes to Bishops Court, a 46,000 sq m (500,000 sq ft) extension to Croydon’s Whitgift shopping centre have been submitted by Aberdeen Property Asset Managers, following objections to the original plans raised by English Heritage.
English Heritage raised concerns over a planned open square, which will now be replace with a glass roofed internal space more in keeping with the character of the adjacent conservation area.
Two buildings in the conservation area, which would have been demolished under the original plans will now be preserved.
The roofline of the new building will also be set back to minimise the impact on nearby almshouses.
Aberdeen also consulted with the Greater London Authority and Tramtrack, which operates the Croydon tram lines.
Tramtrack said that the plans should incorporate an improved tram stop with a larger passenger shelter.
