ABP lands at Doncaster Finningley airport site

Associated British Ports has taken a 100,000 sq ft (9,290 sq m) building at Finningly airport, Doncaster, as part of a secretive contract with HM Customs & Excise.

ABP Connect, the logistics division of ABP, will use the facility, owned by Peel Holdings, for high-security storage of illegal imports.

The six-year lease will command a rent of around £4.50 per sq ft (£48.44 per sq m).

The building forms part of the 790-acre (320ha) former Finningly RAF base, 70 acres (28ha) of which has been earmarked for 750,000 sq ft (69,675 sq m) of short-term office, industrial and storage space.

A new airport planned for the site, dubbed the “Heathrow of the North”, is awaiting the findings of a public inquiry.

ABP found the site via Fuller Peisers internet warehouse rental facility, Spacebuster.

Melvyn Tyers, director of Spacebuster, would not confirm the buildings location, but said: “The entire process, from initial viewing to occupation and installation of racking, took only 11 weeks.”
