ABP picks CBRE and Cushman for Cardiff sites

Associated British Ports has appointed Cushman & Wakefield and CBRE on the development of 13 acres in Cardiff.

The land at the Port of Cardiff is the latest to be brought forward as ABP seeks to release more than 1,000 acres of development opportunities.

Last month, the company announced that Colliers and Lambert Smith Hampton had been appointed to market some 30 acres of land at the Port of Southampton.

ABP is bringing two sites to market at ABP Business Park within the Port of Cardiff that could accommodate up to 200,000 sq ft of industrial or logistics development. The sites on Longships Road are available as a whole or in part.

Helen Thomas, ABP’s head of property for Wales, said: “We believe the development of these sites can be a further catalyst for investment and creating new jobs in what is now the fastest-growing capital city in Europe. Cardiff’s port already supports 2,600 jobs nationally and contributes around £180m to the economy each year.”

ABP Business Park is strategically situated in Cardiff Bay on the southern edge of the city centre and is linked to the national rail network via a direct rail link. As the sites are located within the port, they also have direct access to sea routes and can accommodate deep-sea trade.

Existing tenants include Tarmac, Bob Martin and Valero.

Thomas added: “ABP is a committed partner and has a track record of bringing sites to market which are ready to develop. We work collaboratively to build long-term partnerships and deliver the right solutions for customers, including value-added services and new facilities tailored to suit their business needs.”

The sites are part of a national initiative by ABP which will see it release more than 1,000 acres to support the UK’s supply chain, manufacturing and renewable energy sectors.

Speaking to EG in March, chief executive Henrik Pedersen said: “We looked at this massive land bank – that’s literally land that has not been used for 50 or 60 years – and said, ‘This smells like untapped opportunities’.”
