Access Self Storage to build first mixed use storage and resi scheme

Access Self Storage has won planning consent for a new scheme in Streatham, SW16.

The proposal involves burying around 90,000 sq ft of self-storage space within a three-storey basement, with 63 “build to rent” homes above.

This is the first such scheme, combining both residential and self-storage, Access has received planning permission for. Another five London sites are in the planning system, awaiting a decision. Together, they total over 1,000 homes and 475,000 sq ft of self-storage.

Access is owned by Precis Management Services, who also own both the Shaftesbury and Montcalm hotel brands. The Access Self Storage portfolio currently comprises around 60 sites, two thirds of which are in the capital. Together they amount to 4.3 million sq ft.

This scheme is hoped to be the first of a new residential-led mixed use portfolio, which will incorporate rental homes above buried self-storage. The new venture could deliver 3,000 rental homes and over 1 million sq ft of self-storage.

Drawing on its expertise in hospitality and the hotels sector, it is expected Access will develop and manage the rental homes itself.
