Accor plans to triple UK hotel presence

French-based hotelier Accor will increase its UK presence this year, with eight hotels to open and a total of 2,217 bedrooms under construction.

The hotel group plans to have 91 hotels in the UK by the end of 2004, compared to its current 36.

Accor’s planned openings range across its economy, mid-price and luxury chains, but largely fall into the mid-market bracket.

The group is set to open one Etap, three Ibis hotels, three Novotels and one Sofitel within the year.

Three deals – for a 104-bedroom Ibis in Dundee, a 160-bedroom Ibis in West Street, Leeds, and a 151-bedroom Novotel in Greenwich – are awaiting planning approval.
