Further evidence of the trend for higher-value commercial lots to be auctioned online was seen at the latest Acuitus sale
The auction – which raised £67.6m overall at a success rate of 89% – included a £1.7m sale of a freehold retail warehouse to a private investor who won the bidding online.
The 13,750 sq ft building in Newport is let to Countrywide Farmers at a rent of £156,400 pa until 2022.
Acuitus auctioneer, Richard Auterac, said: “This was a landmark for us and the sector. We think that an increasing number – and especially those from overseas – will start using this method.
The auction also represented the largest catalogue that Acuitus has brought to market and saw a total of 26 of the 75 lots sold achieve prices of more than £1m.
The next Acuitus auction will take place on December 10 at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel, Portman Square, London W1.
