Affordable homes guru slams ‘Stalinist’ Brown

Gordon Brown’s approach to achieving histarget of 3m new homes by 2020 is ‘Stalinist’ and he should leave the job to local councils, according to Steve Nickell, who advises regional government on affordable housing.

Nickell, who chairs the government-backed National Housing and Planning Advice Unit, says government should provide financial incentives for local authorities to grant planning permission for new residential developments instead of imposing targets.
