Nick Ridley, agent, dealmaker and fund manager with more than four decades of experience in the real estate sector, has died.
Ridley died over the weekend after receiving his first dose of immunotherapy to treat a recently diagnosed lung cancer.
Ridley began his career at Savills and went on to take leading global advisory positions at Cushman & Wakefield, CBRE, Colliers and Grosvenor. He later ran his own real estate fund, Global Property Strategic Capital Management. He was also a past president of the British Council for Offices and a member of the Investment Property Forum, and was heavily involved with the British Property Federation, Property Industry Alliance and Bank of England Property Forum.
Hundreds of people from across the industry have left their condolences on Ridley’s LinkedIn profile.
David Shaw, former head of the the Crown Estate’s Regent Street portfolio, said Ridley was “a true character of the property industry and he will be much missed”.
Adam Coffer, managing director of EPF Group, added: “Nick was a wonderful character. He was an inimitable character and truly energetic force.”
Mark Kleinman, director at James Andrew International, said: “He was a larger-than-life character with a great sense of humour. He will be sadly missed and my sincere condolences to Julie and all of his family.”
Martin Samworth, formerly of CBRE, remembered Ridley as one of the property industry’s true characters. “Not shy of an opinion, he was passionate about his work and completely committed to his clients,” said Samworth. “A great team player and someone you would always want on your side. The industry will be a little less colourful with his loss.”
