Unisys have won an order worth up to £1.2m to equip the Nationwide Anglia Building Society’s network of estate agents with microcomputers. Formed from the merger of Borroughs and Sperry in September 1986, Unisys are actually the world’s second largest computer company, with a world-wide turnover in excess of $9bn. No prizes for guessing which is the top company!
An initial order has been placed with Unisys for 100 PC-based systems for use in some of the 387 estate agency offices acquired by the society, and it is planned to install more PC systems as the estate agency business expands.
Each system includes a Unisys PC/microIT with a colour monitor and Model 37 laser printer. The PCs will have two or more slave screens on salespersons’ desks. Staff will be able to match properties to potential purchasers using a custom-designed software package called Negotiator.
Nationwide Anglia Estate Agents plan to link their agency offices throughout the country, initially using dial-up modems but later lease lines may be used. The aim is to offer customers a nationwide service.
Unisys have been appointed to handle the complete installation of equipment and provide support for the project. Further details from Tony Higgins, Unisys Ltd, Stonebridge Park, London NW10 8LS.
