Redrow has appointed former Landsec director Richard Akers as its new non-executive chair, replacing John Tutte.
Akers most recently served as a non-executive director at Barratt Developments for nine years. He also holds non-executive director roles at Unite Group and Shaftesbury.
He was at Landsec for a decade until his retirement in 2014, latterly as executive director.
Akers will take up his new role in September. He will also serve on the nomination committee, which he will chair “in due course”, and the renumeration committee.
Tutte was appointed as chairman of Redrow in 2019 after founder Steve Morgan retired. The company set out Tutte’s intention to retire from the board in February last year.
Nick Hewson, senior independent director at Redrow, who led the company’s search for Tutte’s successor, said: “On behalf of the board, I would like firstly to thank John for his outstanding commitment and dedication to Redrow over nearly 20 years as regional chairman, chief executive and latterly as chair. We wish him all the very best for the future.”
He added that Redrow would benefit from Akers’ “industry and commercial experience which he has gained over a long career and also through his various non-executive roles”.
