Manchester Science Partnerships has received planning consent for a major redevelopment of its 400-acre life sciences campus at Alderley Park, Cheshire.
Plans for the former AstraZeneca site include 400,000 sq ft of new space for life sciences in addition to an existing 1.1m sq ft.
The regeneration, which is subject to approval by the secretary of state, is aimed at securing new tenants from the life sciences sector to create an “internationally significant” facility.
The scheme also aims to deliver as many as 275 homes, a farm shop, gastro pub and hotel.
MSP estimates the park could contribute around £245m per year to the regional economy.
Construction of the facility is expected to take 10 years.
MSP is a partnership between Bruntwood, University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Manchester, Cheshire East and Salford City Councils.
HOW Planning advised MSP on the planning application.
