Aldi plans to open 80 stores in the UK and hire 5,000 staff.
The expansion means the discount supermarket chain will have 700 UK shops and more than 32,000 employees.
Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire and Harrogate in Yorkshire are among the towns in which stores will be built.
The German-owned company was the UK’s sixth-largest supermarket with a 5.6% market share in the 12 months to 31 January, according to Kantar Worldpanel.
