Aldi has won consent for a supermarket on High Road, Tottenham, to replace the building that was destroyed by arson in last summer’s riots.
The supermarket’s plans to redevelop 570-592 High Road, N17, with a single storey supermarket and 88-space car park were last night given the go-ahead by Haringey council.
The building was one of several gutted by blazes during riots in August 2011.
Aldi said the shop will be better than the old one, with a more modern design and layout.
Councillor Alan Strickland, cabinet member for economic development and social inclusion, said: “The new store will bring more shoppers to Tottenham, revitalise this area, which was so badly damaged in the riots, and help boost the vibrancy of the High Road.”
Construction will begin imminently, with a view to having the store open in November.
Elsewhere in N17, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club has named Sainsbury’s as the operator of a new 72,000 sq ft store in its White Hart Lane redevelopment.
