Aldington Crown Land earmarked for detention centre

The Home Office has earmarked Crown Land in Aldington, south-east Kent, for a detention centre of asylum seekers.

The former prisoner of war camp there will be rebuilt in two and three-storey blocks. It will include a 20-bed mini-hospital and appeal hearing centre.

The scheme has been modified from an original £23m plan because of local feeling.
