Allders intends to sell its flagship Croydon shop to Minerva for about£50m.
Analysts have viewed the retailer as a target for hostile bidders keen tosell off its property portfolio. But the sale of the department store willgive Allders the option of bidding for one of its rivals including Bentallsor James Beattie.
