Allsop’s latest residential auction raised more than any auction in the past year despite concerns that bidders may have been put off by the forthcoming General Election.
The sale at the Cumberland Hotel, W1, on 25 May raised £72.8m.
Of the 227 lots offered, 176 sold, reflecting a success rate of 78%. Of those sold, 149 sold in the room and 27 prior to the auction.
Partner and auctioneer Gary Murphy said: “I was very pleased with the result considering we were two weeks away from a General Election. It felt a little easier than the March sale, with a strong appetite for residential property. Some lots we thought were going to struggle with light pre-auction interest, did sell.”
The largest lot was a Grade II listed farm property in Dursley, Gloucestershire, which was purchased by owner occupiers for £1.5m off a guide of £1.6m.
A five-floor retail and office property in West Bromwich, West Midlands, with permitted development rights for conversion into 47 homes, which was guided at £1m-plus, sold for £1.5m.
