Mike Hussey’s Almacantar has got the go-ahead for a redevelopment of Marble Arch Tower including new artwork.
Westminster city council last night approved Rafael Viñoly-designed plans for an 18 storey-tower and seven-storey block at the W1 site.
The revised proposals include 49 flats and around 97,000 sq ft of offices, as well as a Odeon cinema 18,000 sq ft of new retail space.
British artist Lee Simmons will design a new leaf-inspired artwork structure to adorn the development (pictured).
The affordable housing element of the scheme will be provided at 466-490 Edgware Road, W2, where Almacantar will deliver 76 homes, of which 47 will be affordable.
Edgware Road plans also include the reinstatement of the disused petrol filling station, marking the first new petrol station in London for more than 10 years.
Kathrin Hersel, development director of Almacantar, said: “This gateway location overlooking the finest of the Royal Parks deserves a world-class development.”
Construction is expected to start this autumn.
Gerald Eve advised on planning.
