Tory MP for Reading West Alok Sharma has been given the housing minister portfolio in the Department for Communities and Local Government.
The position is one of the four ministerial appointments at the DCLG.
Sajid Javid is the secretary of state for communities and local government.
Sharma was first elected in 2010 and was appointed parliamentary under-secretary of state in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2016.
From 2011 he was parliamentary private secretary to Mark Hoban, financial secretary to the treasury, where he sat on the 2013 Banking Reform Bill and 2011 Pensions Bill committees.
He replaces Gavin Barwell, previously MP for Croydon Central, who lost his seat in last week’s election but was appointed as Theresa May’s chief of staff this week.
EG ran a poll after the general election result on Friday to ask the industry who they thought should be the next housing minister
POLL: Assuming a Conservative-led government. Who would you want as the next housing minister? Do reply with other suggestions too
