Amazon eyes regional sheds

Online retailer Amazon is close to signing two major lettings to strengthen its regional distribution network.

The first, a prelet for a mega-shed with developer Verdion at the £400m Inland Port scheme in Doncaster, Yorkshire, is understood to be in advanced talks that are expected to complete shortly and could see it take as much as 1m sq ft at the 6m sq ft development.

Amazon is also closing in on Prologis’ 160,000 sq ft former Asos distribution facility on Maylands Industrial Estate in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, for use as a satellite facility. The retailer has been searching for several 1m sq ft sheds, plus as many as 20 sheds of 50,000-100,000 sq ft to service same-day deliveries, since early summer 2012.

CBRE is acting for Amazon on its hunt for larger warehouses; Bidwells is acting on the satellite shed search. LSH and Knight Frank are letting agents at Maylands.
