Amazon has leased a refurbished warehouse in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, as it seeks to expand the areas in which it can offer express delivery.
The online retailer has agreed a deal with Clearbell Capital to let a fully refurbished 87,600 sq ft shed at Orton Southgate business park, where the quoting rent is £3.50 per sq ft.
The warehouse, which is close to junction 17 of the A1(M), will allow Amazon to offer improved delivery times to Peterborough and the surrounding area.
Clearbell has fully refurbished the building, which it bought along with an adjacent 201,000 sq ft unit in 2014 as part of the Nevado portfolio.
Manish Chande, senior partner at Clearbell, said: “With this letting we have been able to help solve the last-mile conundrum that many retailers face as retail habits shift across the UK.”
It is the latest in a string of leases signed by Amazon, which was responsible for 26% of all industrial deals in Q3, taking around 2m sq ft according to research by Savills.
The company is attempting to expand the areas in which it can offer Amazon Prime and its new one-hour delivery service, which is currently available in London and Birmingham for more than 20,000 products.
