Amec and Tarmac win £100m Manchester runway contract

Amec and Tarmac have won the £100m contract to build a second runway at Manchester Airport. Construction of the £172m project is due to start this spring

At the same time environmentalists claim they are building tunnels under the 427.35ha (1,056 acre) site in a bid to disrupt work. They are also looking to launch a judicial review of the government’s decision to grant planning permission.

The National Trust denied claims that its opposition to Manchester Airport’s second runway had been bought off with a land and benefits deal worth up to £750,000.
