City of Durham council has selected AMEC Developments and Bryant Homes as preferred developers for its multi-million-pound ‘Heart of the City’ redevelopment scheme.
Phase 1 of the framework plan comprises a £21m leisure scheme providing 11,613 sq m (125,000 sq ft). Proposals include a multiplex, nightclub, restaurants and a health club. The city’s Millennium Hall will be located next door to the leisure development.
Bryant Homes is building a housing estate on Framwellgate Peth and there are plans for a 4-star hotel on Riverside North West.
Meanwhile, in Guildford, AMEC has started work on a £35m office scheme after it thrashed out a forward funding deal with Norwich Union Investment Management. The first phase of the 12,546 sq m (135,000 sq ft) development will provide 5,786 sq m (62,286 sq ft).
The scheme, known as The Guildway, is located in 3.84ha (9.49 acres) on Old Portsmouth Road, south of the town centre.
