Amec poised for Ashton Moss distribution shed signings

Amec Developments is understood to be in advanced talks with two occupiers each looking to take distribution units in Ashton Moss, east Manchester.

One company is in talks over a 200,000 sq ft (18,600 sq m) shed and another is looking for 349,000 sq ft (32,515 sq m). Both potential occupiers are believed to be household names.

Amecs Darran Lawless said: “For the first phase of developments we are currently dealing with requests for units between 70,000 sq ft and 349,000 sq ft.

“The level of enquiries is in excess of the total space available, which is around 495,000 sq ft.”

Ashton Moss will eventually comprise 1m sq ft (92,900 sq m) of industrial and warehouse space along with leisure, entertainment, shops and a hotel.

The news comes a month after Tameside council turned down an application by Amec and Stayley to build 99,800 sq ft (9,300 sq m) of offices at the site, close to junction 23 of the M60.

The site already has planning permission for leisure and distribution use.

Tameside council said it preferred to push office development in the direction of Henry Square in Ashton town centre, where regeneration is planned.

The developers are to appeal against the rejection of offices at Ashton Moss.
