Amec is the preferred contractor to build a new semiconductor manufacturing plant at Newport, in south Wales. It is part of LG of Korea’s £1.7bn investment. It is expected to cost about £200m to build. The cost is expected to rise to more than £1bn after buying equipment. It will be built with an adjacent consumer electronics plant which is one of the largest ever inward investments in the UK.
