US valuation firm American Appraisal has established a UK debt advisory practice as part of a continuing expansion of its UK property services.
The Wisconsin-headquartered group has appointed former Barclays Capital Mortgage Servicing vice-president of special servicing, Emily Hadley, to head the new division.
In the new role as director and head of debt advisory, Hadley will work closely with American Appraisal’s Real Estate Advisory Group (REAG), advising banking, loan servicing, hedge fund and corporate clients on their debt structures, with a particular focus on real estate portfolios.
Hadley joins from Barclays Capital Mortgage Servicing, where as vice-president of special servicing, she oversaw around £2bn of defaulted and watchlisted commercial real estate loans, including:
- negotiating the liquidation and sale of the Redleaf portfolio in the UK to New River for around £50.5m,
- arranging the insolvency and sale of Neumarkt Galerie in Cologne for €130m to Signature Capital,
- agreeing terms on sale of Clichy for €88.7m via conciliation under French law and,
- the bankruptcy and liquidation of Kefren IX AB.
Prior to BCMS, Hadley worked at Hatfield Philips, Europe’s largest independent primary and special servicer, as a loan workout specialist on CMBS, CDO and syndicated loan transactions. During her time at Hatfield, Emily was instrumental in a number of high-profile restructurings including Four Seasons, Berlin Dresden and Drapers Gardens.
Mike Weaver, managing director of American Appraisal’s UK practice, said: “Emily’s appointment is the latest high profile new hire to our UK practice and one which enhances our client offering still further. She brings with her a wealth of experience from previous high-level roles and her proven track record in cross-border transactions is truly impressive.”
Hadley said: “By bringing together my structured finance expertise and the valuation expertise of both American Appraisal and REAG, I believe we have the perfect platform to deliver tailored solutions to clients seeking independent advice on distressed real estate debt.”
