Following Goldman Sachs’ purchase of the Daily Telegraph site in Fleet Street, there is speculation that the American investment bank is eyeing the Daily Express’ landholdings next door.
However, the bank deny this: “Goldman Sachs is not negotiating to buy that site, has absolutely no interest in buying that site and has absolutely no intention of buying the site,” says Brian Maier of the bank’s property section.
Express Newspapers, who were taken over by United Newspapers in 1985, have not yet joined the Fleet Street exodus to Docklands. However, with land prices in the area rocketing, United Newspapers are known to be considering their future.
