Anarchist group ‘liberates’ oligarch’s Belgravia mansion

Squatters occupying Oleg Deripaska’s £25m Belgravia mansion have promised a “summer of anarchy”, with plans to “liberate” more oligarchs’ mansions.

The group, which call themselves the London Makhnovists and are affiliated to the No Fixed Abode Anti-Facists, entered the property just after 1am on Monday.

Deripaska, who was sanctioned last week, accused the British government of colluding with the protestors. Four of them were being held by police last night after handing themselves over.

After draping 5 Belgrave Square in Ukrainian flags and a banner reading “Putin go fuck yourself”, the group posted a video tour of the property, revealing the level of wealth contained in the six-storey building, which has been used by Deripaska for less than one month a year.

The group is named after the Ukrainian anarchist Nestor Makhno who fought in the Russian Civil War.
