Ancala buys 45% stake in Liverpool John Lennon Airport

Infrastructure investment manager Ancala Partners has bought a 45% stake in Liverpool John Lennon Airport from Peel Group and Liverpool City Council.

Peel has sold 35% of its holding in the airport, while the council sold 10%. Peel and LCC have retained 45% and 10% interests respectively.

Spence Clunie, senior partner of Ancala, said the firm will work with Peel to deliver new routes and services: “LJLA has already seen substantial growth in recent years, and we see strong prospects for this continuing.”

Steven Underwood, chief executive of The Peel Group, said: “The successful track record we share with Ancala was a key factor in selecting them as our partner for LJLA.”

In May 2017 Ancala and Peel Group launched a joint venture called Leep Utilities, which is an independent, multi-utility operator. As part of this, Ancala acquired a 50% share in part of Peel’s existing utilities business.
