Anxiety over housing highest since 1974

More people were concerned about housing in August than at any time since October 1974, according to Ipsos Mori’s issues index.

Overall, the number of people naming housing as one of the most important issues facing the country has risen to 22%. Among those aged 18-34 the figure is 26%, falling to 17% for those aged 55 or more.

Housing ranks fifth behind immigration, the European Union, the NHS and the economy as a source of concern.
