Apollo Genting slams Newham council over Aspers decision

The Apollo Genting consortium, one of the losers in the bidding for a casino licence in east London overlooking the Olympic Park, has accused the local council of ignoring the regeneration preconditions of the 2005 Gambling Act.

It threatened to seek a judicial review of the London Borough of Newham’s decision to award the licence to run a 65,000 sq ft casino at Westfield Stratford City shopping centre to Aspers Group. Newham insisted it had considered regeneration and job creation criteria as well community benefit, financial ability, precautions against problem gambling and sustainability.
