The £200m regeneration of an Essex estate and former school site has moved forward with the submission of an outline planning application.
English Partnerships, along with development partner Swan Housing Association, has submitted an application for the regeneration of Craylands Estate and the redevelopment of the former Fryerns School site in Basildon.
The application, received by Basildon District Council, features new homes, roads, a new local centre with retail units and community facilities, alongside improvements to existing facilities.
Residential plans see up to 750 new homes, with 30% affordable housing, and around 700 rebuilt as part of the 10 year phased programme.
English Partnerships area director, Paul Hartmann, said: “The application for outline planning is a significant milestone for Craylands and brings the end goal, of an improved, safer, more accessible estate a step closer.
“At the same time we shouldn’t underestimate that there is still a lot of work to be done to deliver this scheme and work is underway on the next stage of the development process.”
Mark Thompson, executive director at Swan, said: “The community has played a massive role in shaping what we are doing and this is the major Thames Gateway project with a Housing Association taking the lead as a developer.
“The community will be rewarded with a high quality estate regeneration programme.”
