A planning application to build 2,500 homes on greenbelt land on the outskirts of Newcastle upon Tyne has been submitted to the citycouncil.
The local authority’s controversial proposal to redesignate the area,north-west of the city, for homes and industry, was supported byinspectors at a public inquiry in 1996.
The application has been submitted by a consortium of Bryant Homes,Leech Homes, commercial property developers Swan Hill and Cin LaSalleInvestment Management acting for the coal pension scheme.
