Many businesses have either not heard about the new apprenticeship levy or do not understand it, a survey by the British Chambers of Commerce reveals.
The levy is due to come into effect in April. All companies with a wages bill of more than £3m a year will have to pay 0.5% of their total wages bill into the levy, which will be used to increase the number of apprenticeships.
The survey of 1,600 business leaders found that 40% of companies were unaware of the levy or did not understand it.
