National Australia Bank has revealed “a number of players in the UK market” have approached it over its Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks subsidiaries.
Both are highly exposed to UK commercial property. Cameron Clyne, chief executive, said he was going to explore and assess what value the approaches offered for shareholders.
Branches of Yorkshire Banks and Cydesdale could be merged with assets of Royal Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Banking Group to create a new retail banking competitor in Britain.
