ARC launches first Motherlabs in west London

Brookfield spin-off ARC has rolled out its first Motherlabs in West London. The new concept will offer flexible, short lease structures to members, with spaces that can be adapted for different types of tech and science start-ups.

ARC West London currently has more than 122,000 sq ft of space, with plans to double that going forward. The first Motherlabs will house eight new CAT 2 lab spaces, ranging from 670 sq ft to 1,600 sq ft.

Gene therapy business Sania Therapeutics has become the first Motherlabs member, taking 1,400 sq ft of lab and office space.

Daniel Pagella, ARC’s senior director for asset management, said: “The Motherlabs concept responds directly to the requirements of our early stage customers, giving them access to fully capable lab space without the costs or compromises they’ve had to make in the past.

“We are providing them with everything they need to progress their research and scale at pace.”

ARC plans to grow Motherlabs across its 1.6m sq ft network, including to Harwell and Oxford. The move comes amid demand/supply imbalance for lab space across the life sciences sector.
