Arcadia’s end leaves 444 holes on the high street

The remains of Philip Green’s Arcadia empire have been mopped up, but its 444 stores will be permanently closed.

Boohoo sealed its £25m deal for the Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Burton websites yesterday, but will not take any of its 214 stores.

Asos spent £350m on the Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge and HIIT brands, but abandoned its 70 stores, while City Chic Collective’s £23m purchase of Evans is also solely for the brand.

The closure of 444 stores will leave a gaping hole in Britain’s high streets.
