Architect appointed to masterplan Chesterfield regeneration

Architect EDAW has been appointed to masterplan the £300m regeneration of Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

Urbo Regeneration comprising AGD regeneration, Bolsterstone Group and Arnold Laver Group with partner Chesterfield Borough Council appointed the Manchester office of the international firm to bring forward plans for the 40-acre Chesterfield Waterside project.

The scheme focuses on restoring the former industrial site adjacent to the A61 in the River Rother corridor into a 1200-home village with a new retail and business quarter.

A fully navigable route including a new canal basin and canal arm and an eco park are also included in the scheme.

Urbo and EDAW will be refining the design concept in detail ahead of an outline planning application later this year.

Adrian Welsh, EDAW project director said “The redevelopment of Chesterfield Waterside will play an important role for Chesterfield as a great place to live and a Peak District leisure destination.

“Proposals will open up and enhance the waterway and canal side, a lost and underused asset for many years.”

Urbo Director Andy Dainty added, ‘We are confident EDAW will help us to deliver the best possible design quality for this very special site’.
