Architects should have control of the construction of a building, right down to the last lick of paint, the new president of the Royal Institute of British Architects, Ben Derbyshire, says.
Unless the process is reformed, the use of design and build contracts threaten the robustness of buildings, he said.
Derbyshire said he was really worried about the design and build problem, where a component or material is substituted, and said he had been really worried about it before Grenfell Tower.
