Argent gets go-ahead for King’s Cross yard

Coal-Drops-Yard-Kings-Cross-570Argent has gained approval for its plans for King’s Cross Coal Drops Yard.

Camden council granted permission to the next part of the King’s Cross redevelopment which will add around 65 more retail outlets to the area.

Included in the plans will be five large anchor units which will open onto a public space. The design also aims to keep a number of the historic features of the site.

Coal Drops Yard was a former rail coal yard built in 1850 and then later used for warehousing and, from the 1980s, nightclubs.

The new plans were drawn up by Heatherwick Studios.

Morwenna Hall, senior projects director, Argent (King’s Cross), says, “Coal Drops Yard has been designed to be a shopping experience unlike any other. The design by Heatherwick Studio is a considered response to the important Victorian industrial buildings from the 1850s; in fact, the ability for future visitors to the Coal Drops Yard to appreciate the history and various functions of these buildings has been fundamental to the design process.”
