North West housebuilder Arley Homes is set to begin construction on a development of family homes after Chorley borough council granted planning permission for the regeneration of a derelict site.

The Duxbury Woods development in Chorley, Lancashire, will be built in phases, with the first properties expected to come to market towards the end of the year.

The development of the 11.7-acre brownfield site, off Myles Standish Way, includes 135 family homes, open spaces and a children’s play area.

The site had outline planning permission for 200 homes, but Arley reduced the density of properties in its application to provide space for the children’s play area and larger homes with bigger gardens.

John Cosgrave, managing director of Arley Homes, said: “The approval clearly demonstrates the local authority’s progressive and encouraging vision for the borough. The proposal provides significant investment in a technically complex site, bringing it back into use for the benefit of the whole community.”
