Arsenal signs Newlon for Queensland Road homes

The development of more than 300 affordable homes next to Emirates Stadium in North London can now go ahead, after Arsenal Football Club signed Newlon Housing Trust to take on the project.

The contract paves the way for the start of the Queensland Road development, which received planning permission in March 2009.

The 354 homes are expected to be completed in 2013.

However, the construction timetable for 375 private homes at the site remains uncertain in the current funding climate.

The affordable phase with Newlon will include an Arsenal Sports Centre for the local community.

The development is part of Arsenal’s regeneration in the Borough of Islington as a result of the Club’s move to Emirates Stadium

Arsenal director Ken Friar said: “We are looking forward to working with our partners to deliver the new homes and the Arsenal Sports Centre on the Queensland Road development.

“We are proud of the regeneration that we have created in Islington and so far, as a result of our move to Emirates Stadium, we have transformed over 60 acres of derelict land, delivered over 2,500 new homes and constructed a new waste recycling centre.”
